“I have a few intersecting reasons as to why I enjoy FlashHacks and researching corporate networks in general. Firstly because the open data movement is fascinating, and FlashHacks has been my introduction to open data – so now I know about it, I want to take every opportunity to contribute, and this feels like a really good way to do that. As a journalist, I think that researching corporate networks aligns with what I do – not just because I can find stories in the data, but because it ties in with a journalist’s role of going “behind the scenes”, going deeper, and working out what really goes on in areas of life that people take for granted (in this case, corporations, which affect so much of our globalised world). So I feel like I’m doing important journalistic work with FlashHacks.
Also, OpenCorporates is an amazing resource and one which has the potential to be so powerful the more it’s built up. A database like OpenCorporates, as well as being of interest to journalists and open data advocates, has a lot of everyday applications.”
